I had the chance to enjoy a chilly hebdomad in Boston at the end of March and pass much of it tromping through empty gardens just waiting to be planted .

I was specially interested in seeing the historical site of theFenway Victory Gardens , the last of the original public victory gardens from World War II . Even though I knew I would n’t see any vegetables or prime growing this fourth dimension of year , I still wanted to visit a shoes where Americans institute the war garden I ’ve heard so much about .

While our troops fought overseas , President Franklin Roosevelt encourage gardeners across the commonwealth to produce their own solid food in response to food shortages and to support the war exploit . ( VisitVictory Gardento see film footage from original Victory Garden promotions . )

For a vegetable gardener like me , visiting the garden was worth a long hike in a inhuman fart . I was surprised to see there are still more than 500 garden secret plan place on seven acres . Each plot is about 15 x 25 feet and seems to shine the personality of the gardener who tend it . It ’s unlike any community garden I ’ve seen .

I ’m not indisputable how many of these plots will be plant with vegetable and herbs this spring . Many have minuscule lawns surrounded by evergreen plant tree diagram and shrubs . Some have beautiful molded iron gates and others are concatenation data link . Some have wide-eyed garden structures , but others have elaborate arbors . Paths of brick or stepping stone run through many garden space .

In addition to the private plots , there ’s a Special Needs garden plan and work up in 1999 by the Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers at Northeastern University .

I ’d jazz to see the gardens when everything is in full prime . If you ’ve been there in summer , please post some of your observation or photograph here .
