Yesterday was one of those days that make Mary and I understand just how favorable we are to get to do what we do .
We had the pleasure and honor of present the primal note speech at the Licking County Master Gardeners Spring Conference .
The theme of the 24-hour interval was bright titled“Backyards subject ” – and as we walked out of the league at the destruction of the daytime , we both felt so fortunate to have been part of such an crucial topic – and felt compelled to write about it for our Sunday Farm Update .

All of our backyard really do matter – and in reality – so do all of the front yards , patios , biotic community gardens and outside spaces across the Earth .
Unfortunately – in today ’s hectic , time - consuming , “ plugged - in ” domain of invariant texts , emails , telephone set call , officious schedules and more – many turn a loss sight that there is an amazing life to survive and experience right outside their back threshold .
And one that if you give yourself and your family clock time to see , can not only brace and regenerate your spirit – but feed your consistency and mortal as well .

I am so very grateful that growing up , we were fortunate to have both set of our parents disclose us to the wonders of our own backyard . Whether it was time drop in the garden planting , harvest , or yes , even the dreaded task of weed – we check valuable liveliness skills from our parents while breathing in the reinvigorated air of the corking outdoors .
The list can go on and on – mowing , crease leaves , plant trees or helping in the flowerbeds – our parents teach us both the beauty of nature and the time value of a piddling surd work and sweat . They teach us how to grow our own solid food – and more importantly – that it was okay to get our workforce dirty .
Yes – like all minor with those memories , I retrieve we can both be honest and include that at the time we might not have appreciated our required participation in the chores assign – but I can tell you that they pose the groundwork for what we lie with today .

We both express joy recall back how our parents would “ throw us ” out of the house if we ever stayed inside too long – not wanting us to become lazy – or possibly it was that we were simply bother them . 🙂
In today ’s sanitise and super clean world – sometimes people forget how healthy it is to get dirty and put your manus into the soft , sweet smell earth . To dig up a little ground and live the incredible miracle of come out a seed into the ground – only to watch it grow to put up food for the kin a few weeks or month later .
So that brings me back to yesterday . We are so fortunate to get the opportunity to speak more and more about our little farm and garden – and as so often is the event – we always go out the issue feeling like we get wind right smart more from those attending than we could ever give back .

It was awing to spend time with so many of the attendees after verbalise – and then hearing and instruct their stories . There was also an unbelievable list of slap-up verbalizer at the conference – and all of them allow for us with something to think as well .
But I have to say , I was most moved when Nature Photographer and Speaker Daniel Caron utter one simple sentence during his presentation – “ When you are outside , you are never alone . ”
That really bond with us – because it is so simple and yet so hefty . When you step out of doors , you are around chiliad of creatures no matter where you go . Whether it be Bronx cheer , bees , spiders , ants , bats , cervid or M of other dirt ball and metal money – you are never alone . Something as bare as a walk of life among all of those creatures can make even the bluest of 24-hour interval feel promising again .

Get Outside
So we leave you with this thought today : Make this the year you get outside to set something ! Maybe it ’s just a few seeds here or there , perhaps it is a tree , a few hanging baskets or mayhap a potted works or two . But whatever you do , make it point to get your hands a small dirty .
And while you are at it – allow your kids and their booster experience it too !
Because if we as a generation do n’t run on the accomplishment , memories and mania that our parent pass on to us – who will ?

A magnanimous THANK YOU again to all of the rattling Tennessean and organizers from the Licking County Master Gardeners . We so enjoyed speaking and are so thankful for folks like you who enliven us and others – and keep the mania alive for gardening !
