" There are 30 public gardens within 30 miles of Philadelphia , so Fine Gardening editors visit the area quite often . The first hebdomad of October I was in Kennett Square , PA . With a few barren hours and great good afternoon light , I went to mark out the test beds atLongwood Gardens . The dahlia beds were Brobdingnagian , and in full , riotous blooming . What an autumn treat for any plant lover ! "
