Beauty in the beginning of the gardening year
My name is Jesse , and I subsist in East Haddam , Connecticut ( Zone 5 ) . I love the vibrant spring colors in my garden against the backdrop of the Ellen Price Wood when the leave-taking are just opening !
I ’ve been building my gardens in degree for the last 17 yr . We have a robust deer population in this rural area , so I designed an effective , somewhat priced , unobtrusive fence and had it establish about 15 years ago . My garden have been growing and flourish ever since . I ’m learning how to design a garden for with child ocular impact , and I analyze the pages in your magazine like a scholar ! In the last two years , I ’ve been moving plants to createcontrast in colorand leaf shape , and transplantingself - sowersthat scatter all over the garden into bigger clusters .
Last twelvemonth I ramp up a long , winding natural Harlan Fiske Stone paseo through the garden and created two areas for a rest on a bench along the way . I do it to sit and reckon the garden from these different advantage points . Last year a booster gave me a beautifulcolumbinefor Mother ’s Day , and I tally two more for a grouping . They come back this leap even larger than they were last year — so I ’ve been sum more aquilege to the garden . Their flower are intriguing and so unequaled , and they wish our rocky soil and cold winters .

Sedumlines the edge of the curve in the foreground , a golden threadleaf cypress(Chamaecyparispisifera‘Filifera Aurea ’ , Zones 5–7 ) and creeping Jenny(Lysimachianummularia‘Aurea ’ , Zones 3–9 ) bestow a chartreuse palette , and false indigo(Baptisiaaustralis , Zones 3–9 ) on the left hand is just emerging and will attain 3 feet with purple peak .
My married man and sons impart me this statue twelvemonth ago for Mother ’s Day . I moved her this yr so she greets visitor when they enter the garden , ring by golden spirea(Spirea japonica‘Goldmound ’ , Zones 4–8),caramel heuchera(Zones 4–8 ) , and sweet woodruff(Galium odoratum , Zones 4–8 ) .
Bearded iris andastilbein the foreground , with a disconsolate glass sphere snuggle in a golden threadleaf cypress .

We build this trellis year ago and tot a pack of cards under it this spring . Wisteriaclimbs over the trellis , and next to it is a vivid fuchsia - coloredazaleain full bloom .
This beautiful azalea has lilac petal with fuchsia centers . Tiger lilies(Hemerocallisfulva , Zones 3–9 ) are just emerge , and a golden spirea and leucothoe(Leucothoeaxillaris , Zones 6–9 ) make a natural enclosure next to the garden fence . The deer nibble the leucothoe through the back of the fence .
Columbines(Aquilegiahybrid , Zones 3–8 ) bloom in May .
