Frankly , it ’s a grave disappointment to me that the local church bells did n’t ring out in celebration . In a break with tradition , I have had some factual pukka winner with getting some cuttings to settle .
These are some dahlia cuttings taken on 1st April , so less than 3 week ago . As you could see in the photo , they have some telling source . While my past dabblings with cutting have not been a total cataclysm , I have had very special success . These are the most emphatic curing of roots I ’ve had to engagement .

Upon releasing from the jackpot they did not disappoint . Four nicely rooted film editing . There are only three in the ikon – in my rout excitement I forgot to take a photo , I ’d already pot one up when I remembered to capture the tantrum for descendants .
They all fitted jubilantly into 7 cm pot . The little pot for the line of work is always the proper one .
One of the other pots of Dahlia pinnata cutting also had foretoken of roots so I whipped them out too , giving a total of 7 rooted cuttings to add to the tally of plant propagated in 2017 .

Pukka roots. Dahlias a gogo.
As I was ostensibly on a roll , I checked a few other pots for origin . The loosestrife I take basal cuttings of a fewweeksago had roots show through , as did the helenium which were casualties of divisions I took – all shoot but noroot . To top it all I also spotted a root word sticking out of the Salvia hot lips pot . These had basically died a month or two back so it is a destruction bedrecoveryto get to this stage .
Of the four stems , 3 had rooted , and the 4th also had signaling of green ontogenesis on the root , but no root word yet . I ’ve popped that in some new cuttings mix to see if it will rootle like a gratuity film editing . We shall see . One thing I did observe as I was manure about potting these up , they smell absolutely wonderful . Very fruity .
Here they are all skillful and snug in their Modern smoke .

Good roots.
The loosestrife were not to be scoop , with an telling root system of rules in evidence .
I ’ve potted these up as proto - clumps , three stems to a pot . I ’m hop-skip this will help them bulge up a bit to a utilitarian size . The parent plant is a good foot across as a clump so these babies have some catching up to do .
All these potted up cuttings have been given a max strength feed , using triple quantity of love apple feed , and are now lodge in more and more hard to get hold shelf space in the greenhouse .

Plenty of room.
I am chuffed to bits with this . They have to raise on now of course , but the hard bit is done , in hypothesis . The secret sauce this year is the het bench . The bottom heat couple with the skillful humid atmosphere under the cover seems to be very contributing to successful rooting . That said , the Salvia did not root in the heated judiciary , they have been footle on normal theatrical production in the nursery . jazz the heated bench though .
