There ’s something howling about growing trees from seed and that ’s a reoccurring musical theme here at Florida Survival Gardening . One of my favorite stories is that of Eddy ’s avocado . primitively posted on March 16th of 2013 , it deserves a reprint.-DTG
So you were skip I ’d knock off all the “ growingtrees from seed ” Post ?
NEVER !

I was down in Fort Lauderdale a few weekend ago work out on myAmazing Tropical Food Forestwhen I run into my supporter Eddy … and remembered his avocado tree .
Eddy is a charismatic workforce - on farmer who owns a coffee plantation down in Puerto Rico . He ’d show me this aguacate tree before but I did n’t think to take a picture then . ( Eddy also growsedible air potatoesand shared some bulbil with me in the past tense . )
This clock time I got pictures and the whole story .

A friend of Eddy ’s had an aguacate tree that was extremely productive and had support many crops over the years . The humankind shared his alligator pear with his family and friends ( which include Eddy . ) alas , this friend key he was dying of cancer . Thinking ahead , he brought a footling seedling from his avocado pear tree to Eddy and said “ Here , take this tree … uprise it for me . ”
Shortly afterwards , he pass by away .
Eddy , not being content with simply putting the tree diagram in the ground , locomote for some serious overkill on his planting of the now - sacred seedling .

“ David , ” he tell me , “ I cut into this huge hole , homo . Like … three infantry cryptical . Then I dump in lots of MiracleGro , bury it in , then put in more , you know … really deep . Then I planted the tree diagram on that . ”
I asked him how sometime the tree was – and when it start to produce .
“ It ’s four years old now … total into its fifth year . When it was three years former , I decided to graft onto it . But the graft kick the bucket . Then I tell the tree diagram … ‘ make fruit this twelvemonth or I ’m gon na cut you down . I ’ll defeat you ! ’ And it did – David , it did ! It turn out yield . No lie . ”

So there you go – another “ yield tree from seed ” success tale . This tree is totally beautiful and plausibly get nigh to 20′ grandiloquent . I ’ve never tried the “ swallow up flock of MiracleGro ” method … but if I ever have a friend dying of cancer that turn over me a seedling … by golly … I will .
