I do n’t have the staring nursery for raising many orchids , we keep a few in the house during the coldest month of December and January , with many occupying windowsills and plant life windows , where they baby-sit on gravel tray which supply some moisture , but most of these orchidaceous plant are ordinary super - market purchases ( still beautiful , but not botanically interesting to folks like us ) . So although we keep these phalaeonopsis and genus Paphiopedilum , the lady slipper orchidaceous plant , affectionate and secure , as they wish the same temperatures we do , and throughout the winter , they cater us with at least some Bob Hope that warmer weather will finally reelect . We ca n’t maturate all of the orchids , but I do keep a few selected rarer species – the actual hoarded wealth , out in the glasshouse , where I am limited to those metal money that can handle the cold temperature , of which , there are plenty .
You may think that all orchidaceous plant need tropical rainforest conditions , but that ’s just not true , as there are many which favor coolheaded or cold winter temperatures , and even some which can wield very tripping frosts . Orchid collectors divide the enceinte orchid family ( one of the magnanimous plant families in the human beings ) into three broad groups , based on ethnical conditions – nerveless growing , intermediate and warm . nerveless arise orchids ( those which do best with some periods of either near freezing or nighttime time temperature around 40º are honest for us , while we find some success with intermediate orchids , which often can treat temperatures around 50º at dark . Warmer orchids are not growable , as they mostly need red-hot and ruttish weather condition , and can not support temperature swings often preferring never-ending temperature above 70ºF.
