Escape to the tropics in this Sri Lanka garden

Tired of wait ceaselessly for spring to make it ? Did the last of those nor’easters at long last unwrap you ? Well , how about indulging in a bit of pure tropic escapism ? Today ’s flick , sent in by Mano , do all the way from Matale , Sri Lanka , and show a garden full of exuberant tropical semblance and a LOT of decoration trees ! Interestingly , though many of the industrial plant here are tropical wonders those of us in frigid climate can only dream about , there are mountain of plants here that work attractively as planetary house plants or annuals . With a small planning and right plant choices , you could have a piece of the Torrid Zone even if you survive somewhere still covered by snow .

Would n’t you love to pose out on this porch , besiege by lavish , tropical increase ? It looks like heaven .

Here ’s the same porch , from the exterior await in . If you had a glassed - in sunporch , you could re - produce this look in a lot of other climates , as long as you chose tropical plant life fit to more shaded conditions .

I love the direction that variegated Scindapsus aureus ( Epipremnum aureum , tropic ) has been trained up along the top of the porch to create a retentive streamer of green . Pothos is a vulgar houseplant , implausibly tolerant of broken lighter and harsh condition , so you could easily do the same over a sunny ( or not - so - gay ) window .

Another view of the porch — what a great hobo camp of greenery !

Many of the plants that we in frigid climates think of as annual are actual perennial — or even shrubs!—in tropic zone . Here copper folio ( Acalypha wilkesiana ) has grown to a massive shrub . But the beautiful , multicolored foliage is just as great if you enjoy it as an annual for the summer , or as a houseplant if you have a passel of light .
