An important part of my work as an educator is the examination and trialing of different plants to assess their performance in our intriguing ( and unpredictable ) North Texas climate . I ’m grateful to have relationship with the world ’s leading industrial plant breeders , and they generously send me new plants to trial before they hit the food market . So , I thought it would be fun to let you in on this “ behind the scene ” work , and tell you about what I ’m growing .

Get to know Bonsai Basil and The Kitchen Minis™collection

The Kitchen Minis ™ is a solicitation of vegetable plants specially bred for produce indoors on a sunny windowsill or counter top in pot sizing as minor as 4 inches . Is n’t that cool ?

This line of credit is a big deal because it intend that works specifically plan for indoor ontogeny will become more widely useable at nursery . Bonsai Basil is the first herb addition to the assembly line , and it was developed to stay shaggy-haired and small .

Also very cool is that this Greek basil ’s fine , uniform leaves do n’t require chop . you’re able to deplume the leaf straight off the plant to splosh over a caprese salad or on top of a homemade pizza pie .

Small plants for small spaces

I recently incite into a house with lots of outdoor garden blank , but my previous home was a townhouse that only had a small outdoor patio . I lease a separate garden place for my mental test and presentment garden , but I still love produce as much as possible at home , and I was always on the observation tower for vegetables with space - write , small development habits .

Kitchen Minis ™ are an exciting solution for anyone who want to get their own food for thought , but does n’t have much garden quad . Though I have heap of out-of-door space now , it is still such a treat to have fresh herbs develop right in my kitchen .

How I’m growing Bonsai Basil

For best upshot , Bonsai Basil needs as much Lord’s Day as possible . At least six hours of sun will help it stay bushy and heavyset and as dark-green as potential . The windowpane above my kitchen is western - cladding and only gets a few hr of verbatim sun , but so far , the sweet basil is pretty happy . The plant life will get bushier once I come out regularly harvest .

I ’ll proceed to update this post as the industrial plant turn , and I ’ll seek to enamor examples of how I use it , too . )
