Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation ( Toshiba ESS ) has received an order from SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co. , Ltd. for steam turbines and generators for the geothermal power plant equipment renovation of Units 1 through 3 at the old 45MW Olkaria I geothermic business leader plant in Kenya . The steam turbines and generators will be ship to the land site by December 2025 .
Olkaria I geothermic power industrial plant is the oldest geothermic power plant in Kenya and has been in commercial operation by the Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC ( hereinafter " KenGen " ) since 1981 .
Units 1 through 3 of the plant call for renovation due to ageing , and Toshiba ESS ’s steam turbines and generator have been select for renovation . This will increase the power output of Units 1 through 3 from the current 15 Megawatts(MW)to 21 MW each , enable them to reach a higher yield with less steam . These dot were highly evaluated by KenGen and precede to the acceptance of the declaration .

Kenya ’s economical increment is spurring demand for power . The government has react with a comprehensive pattern for development , Vision 2030 , which presently includes provision for boosting Kenya ’s electricity generating capacity from renewable sources and seeking to transition to 100 % fleeceable energy by 2030 . Many new geothermal power plants are planned to tap into the 9GW geothermic potential in Kenya ’s Great Rift Valley neighborhood .
Toshiba ESS and KenGen concluded a memorandum of understanding ( MOU ) to forebode a partnership on Operation and Maintenance ( O&M ) service through a combination of KenGen and Toshiba ESS ’s know - how and electronic connection in 2022 . They aspire to provide O&M help for geothermic power plants in developing area , including East African countries outside Kenya .
Toshiba ESS has several successful delivery criminal record provide geothermal power generation systems in Kenya and other East African res publica . to boot , Toshiba ESS has kick in to the forwarding of geothermic major power generation by signing MOUs on geothermic top executive plant business with several partners in other East African country .

Shinya Fujitsuka , Director and Vice President of the Power Systems Division at Toshiba ESS , said , " I ’m pleased that we can conduce to energy stability in Kenya by provide our equipment and services . Toshiba ESS will stay to provide optimum products and solutions to suffer customer needs through its lineup of small to large geothermal steam turbines and generator with office outputs ranging from 1 MW to 200 MW . Aiming for further clean Energy Department that is indispensable for the actualisation of a sustainable smart set , we will impart to the recognition of a carbon paper - neutral society by provide geothermal mightiness plant religious service both in Japan and oversea .
