Joan’s pink poppies, Peckerwood Garden, Yucca Do cold-hardy agaves & more
This week , I ’m celebrating “ Joan ’s pink poppies , ” a passalong from a very inspiring gardener fighting Crab thatVertieand I had the chance to meet .
Another treasured passalong is bewhiskered fleur-de-lis ‘ Raspberry Frills ’ from Trisha Shirey , withDr . William Welch’sfoundling rose , Maggie , that I got fromIt ’s a Jungle .
Oh , check out Trisha ’s web log atLake Austin Spa Resort . It ’s a squad blog , with tips on gardening , exercise , and recipes . I ’m drooling over the recipe for Shitake mushroom outpouring rolls .

This bearded iris has been around the block a few times .
Years ago , I puzzle it from the Iris Society of Austin ( watch for their keen September sales event ) . I ’ve divided and moved it to survey the sun as my garden shift . The insect nymph?Wizzie Brown , Texas AgriLife Entomologist , recollect it may be a katydid houri .
In the African tea cove , last year I build up mounds for blackfoot daisy . Only one made it , now joined by a newPelargonium sidoides , one of my Tom Peace experiments from South Africa . The winecups are about to take over when the downhearted - eyed sess goes to seed .

My garden is n’t the tidiest in the universe , but it ’s my antithesis to the rest of my life-time , which is highly structure . It ’s also a chance to try out , without bear on anyone but myself . Well , except for the wildlife .
Someone who has impacted the botanical world with his experiments is John G. Fairey ofPeckerwood Garden . This week on CTG , we are most honored to have play with him and tap the garden in late February . See how his visual modality and untiring vigour bring us fresh garden mental lexicon , like thisDioon edule .
As always , CTG ’s conductor Ed Fuentes was behind the photographic camera , pore his unbelievable heart on discovery to include our viewers in our experience .

For this intense shoot , we had the rarefied luxury of a 2d photographic camera , with talented Derek Joyoprayitno .
Steve Maedl , the guy who can do anything , sets up our lighting for John ’s interview .
Freelancers all , you ’ll see their names on many credit rolls , and of track , on KLRU’sAustin City Limits .

One Peckerwood trick I must show you is how they shade off new plants .
This is all important when you move a plant in the estrus , or come out it as a petite one in baking conditions . Beats my newsprint on a stick !
Peckerwood uphold but a small staff , and even they volunteer atOpen Daysand their other special events . I thank Connie Stegen , who helped organize this shoot . I also thankThe Garden Conservancyfor their backing of this botanic hoarded wealth .

Yucca Do Nursery , started by John Fairey and Carl Schoenfeld , has moved off web site to Giddings , but the mission remains the same : hoard , testing , and propagate alone and endangered plants . This calendar week , Tom meets with Wade Roitsch aboutcold - stalwart agaves , aloes and other Yucca Do favorites .
Watchonline to see it all , get Daphne ’s account on pile laurels not bloom , John Dromgoole ’s info on fertilizers , and Wade ’s flora inclination .
Thanks to Bill Welch , John Fairey , Yucca Do , and all of you , we celebrate gardens of novel discoveries , knowledge , and inheritance to carry on botanical marvel and joyousness . CTG is so proud to be part of this avenue .

at last , here ’s agarden tourfor you to gather some ideas . Launch 787 and Mosaic at Mueller host the 2010Outdoor Living Tour : A Glimpse into Your Neighbor ’s Backyardthis Saturday , April 17 . Looks fabulous !
Until next workweek , Linda
