Tomato seeds ferment in a shock . On the plateful are some dried seeds .

I do n’t collect intercrossed love apple seeds as they may not grow back true . What that means is they may revert back to one parent or the other that they were thwart with . Heirloom tomatoes will grow back dead on target .

The only heirloom tomato seed I pull in are from my gargantuan Lycopersicon esculentum as I ’m trying to get some seminal fluid that do well in our high desert and give me some big , really great tomatoes . Last class I got 3 tomato plant seeds from a jumbo agriculturalist who develop a tomato over 7 lbs in Ohio . This year I amaze a pretty expectant love apple from one of those seeds . I keep the tomato which measured 19 inches in diameter and almost weighed 3 lbs and late got the seeds . I will try some of these seeds next year as well as other bounteous tomato come that I get from another raiser this week .   Here ’s how you may collect your favored heirloom tomato seeds .

To collect tomato source , cut the Lycopersicon esculentum capable , squeeze and scratch up out all the seminal fluid and put them in a little jar with some water supply . Then put the chapeau on . seek to not get too much pulp in with them . The seed / water mixture will commence to ferment in a couple of days and it might eruct a small which is good . The fermentation will remove the sludge on the seeds and the seeds will light to the bottom of the mixture . When almost all the seeds are on the bottom , pour out the liquid , seeds and pulp through a o.k. screen , remove the mush . Keep rinsing until only the seeds are left . diffuse them out on a paper towel to debilitate the excess water and then put them on another paper towel to wind up dry out . Before the come dry completely I move them around so the composition does n’t stick to them . After they are thoroughly dry , put them in a ziplock baggie , label and store . you may keep any heirloom Lycopersicon esculentum seeds this means .

My only concern with collecting tomato seeds is if you plant cherry tomatoes too close to the heirloom tomato you want to keep , they may cross - pollinate so think about where they will be in your garden next spring and do n’t plant them decently next to each other . tomato are n’t pollinated by bees but by the piece of cake or are ego cross-pollinate . Tomatoes originally number from South America and honeybees came from Europe or Africa so tomatoes are n’t native plants to the Apis mellifera hence they are n’t interested which actually makes pollination easy to control .
