This is mostly because the bookshelves were covered with leger , vintageStar Warsaction figures , strong drink , theme and pencils , jars of seeds , baskets , lanterns , assault rifle , etc . etc . etc …

When we emptied out the house in preparation for our move , it was finally time to take a video and take some pictures for you .

How To Build Cinder Block Bookshelves (The Nice-Looking Way)

The grownup problem with most clinker block shelves is that the wretched side of the concrete blocks faces outwards . The raspy holes in their centers will always count rocky and cheap .

Lay them on their sides , however , and the look improves greatly .

All you need for this project are a few easy - to - obtain items and one tool . Two tools , if you decide to paint .

Paintbrush ( if you decide to paint the blocks )

Miter saw ( or a hand saw , if you need a workout )

If you stack two full - size cinder blocks on top of each other , as I do on the bottom shelf of these cinder pulley Word of God case , you end up with a 16″ distance between shelves . This is bigger than you involve for most account book but is great for storing box or baskets that contain other detail .

The block - and - a - one-half sizing shelves hold most books nicely .

individual block depth shelf are only 8″ marvelous and solve for salt away small soft-cover book and CDs / DVD .

I did n’t let any of the pine boards extend more than 6′ without sustenance , since I believe that ’s run a peril of the shelves buckle over time .

At 6′ dyad I ’ve had them hold for years without turn away downwards in the tenuous , even under the weighting of many horticulture books and other hardcovers .

I trust I used 10′ boards on the ledge depict above , then cut the I that did n’t stretch out the full breadth of the shelf withmy handy Hitachi miter saw . I bang that matter .

you could lease some of the ledge only hail half elbow room to the front by using just one table instead of two , or you could put two 2x8s side by side for every shelf . I got fancy and even trend little pieces to match the gap and make it wait not bad with insert and changes in how I stacked the closure , but you do n’t have to do that .

On my next homestead I ’ll likely do this exact same cinder block bookshelf invention again . They work well , save you plenty of immediate payment , plus they ’re super stable thanks to their weighting .
