It ’s my belief that most hobby farmers are fond of machinery , particularly tractors .

sure as shooting I count myself among those who look up to a well - build tractor , designed to ferment severely at farming for years ( or decades ) . I have a couple of honest-to-goodness ace on my farm ( aJohn Deere Model 40and aMassey Ferguson 135 ) that still see frequent use .

But I ’m far from being an expert tractor historian with cognition of all the most democratic and important models through the years . So for all you tractor chronicle enthusiasts , I have a play challenge for you this hebdomad .

Auction Finds

Several years ago , I attended afarm auctionin a nearby town .

The sheer bulk of tools and machinery being sold was impressive . About 10 nice tractors were line up in a rowing , plus a apparently endless supply of implements and attachments , on about a 2 - Akko plot .

One tractor was even set up up to power a round saw leaf blade , basically turn the tractor into a mini sawmill . There did n’t appear to be any safety equipment feature , though . The giant blade was simply pose behind the tractor with no guards or covers or anything . You would involve to be careful around a simple machine like that .

One of the most entertaining areas of the vendue display was toward the back , behind arow of windbreak Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . This is where the farm rubbish , I hazard , was useable for interrogatory . I think every old farm has its fair share of weaken - down machinery , and this farm was no exception .

Two of the most striking physical object in the scrap agglomerate were a duo of half - dismantle tractors in moderately rough shape . They had been red at some point . But by the time of the auction sale they were more rusty than not , and the rear wheel seemed to be especially corroded — perhaps from year of use with fluid - filled tires ?

It also appear that their engines had been removed , as well as their front steering wheel , leaving behind metal shells with little value except as scrap metal and entertainment for curious tractor rooter .

ID the Tractors

I have no idea of their model number , or how one-time they were , or what became of them . No , I did n’t corrupt them .

Someone probably melted them down , or hauled them away to a landfill . But I recently stumbled across a photograph I snap of the two tractor . So if you conceive you know a pile about old tractors , here ’s an opportunity to put your noesis to the test .

First off — who made them ? And when ? Are they the same model ? ( To my eye , that is likely the shell . ) Or are they somewhat unlike ?

Would you have bought them if you could have ? Or would you have followed my lead story in slip away them up ?

On this quiet weekend deep in winter , have sport researching tractor history .
