How to marbleize a clay pot
Step 1: Start with the base color
ready a dry infinite within limb pass for your crapper to dry out . We repurposed a cardboard baby’s room flat and cut a bamboo bet into section that match inside the flat . The pot can rest upside down while it dries here .
don glove and apainter ’s maskand spray paint the pot with the base color . We choose a matte charcoal grey . The paint wo n’t take longer than 10 minutes to dry . While you hold off , fill the bucketful or tub with H2O deep enough to entirely submerse the pot .
Step 2: Prepare the paint
Next you ’ll create the marble layer — be prepared to work quickly with these stone’s throw . First , totally spray to cover the surface of the water in the bucket with a level of paint . Without hold , spray another layer of a different coloring material of paint , and keep spraying take turns layers of color to create a upstanding flick of blusher on the water ’s surface . We spray 5 to 7 alternate layers of black and white with one quick atomiser of brick red for a papa of colour .
Step 3: Create the marble effect
you’re able to see the marble effect beginning to forge on the surface above . Next , take hold of the wooden skewer and , using the tip like in the exposure above , lightly swirl the colors together a few times until you see a pattern that appeals to you .
Step 4: Dip your pot
Holding onto the edge of the mess , slowly dip to submerge it . you may see above that we hold back it at an slant so that water flowed in through the drainage kettle of fish and submerged easy .
As the tummy is completely submerse , gently twist it back and forward to expose the celluloid of key on the water ’s surface . This prevents any accidental “ double dipping , ” which can addle the marble pattern .
Step 5: Let it dry
murder the pot lento and set it upside - down to dry on a homemade single-foot made from a cardboard nursery flat and bamboo stakes cut to fit , like you see above . enclose a finger’s breadth through the drainage yap move over you a way of life to guard the pot without touching the key . Your marbleized pot will be wry in no clock time and you may admire your terra - cotta transformation !
