A pot full of plants or a container planting of precious memories?
Hi GPODers ,
This submission strike close to home for me , so though it was unforesightful , I just had to share . Today we ’re hearing from Jerrica and learning about the beautiful container planting ( aka “ masterpiece ” ) she made with her female parent :
My name is Jerrica Lawry , and I am from Lodi , Wisconsin . I have only been gardening for the last three years . It is something me and my mom enjoy doing together , and something she enjoy doing with my grandma . My belated grandma sleep with all form of bloom , and gardening makes us think of her and speak about her — how she would make out all of our creations .

A couple week ago we went flower shopping and bought so many blossom that the trunk , the seat , and my lap were full on the manner home ! I pose down and picked through the flowers until I had all the precise ones I demand for this “ masterpiece ” as we call in it ! Every prison term my mammy and I look at it we ’re just so happy with how it turned out . We both think it ’s the perfect masterpiece video display of flowers .
A rainbow in a pot ! Jerrica and her mum utilized so many gorgeous plants of so many beautiful colors and still managed to compile a cohesive design .
The nigher you get to this instauration , the more telling it becomes ! The range of flower colors , sizing , and forms is fantastical , and I always appreciate when leafage plants are carefully considered and not just an afterthought .

get this compliance made me reminisce about all the time I ’ve spent gardening with my mother and grandma . I would not have had my dearest for plants , and in flex my deep discernment for all of nature , without the influence of these two significant cleaning woman . The power gardeners have goes way beyond the power to rise things .
With all this in mind , I decided to go on a little trip-up down memory lane and share some container planting that my mamma and I have produce together . If you have the time today , look back at horticulture memories you have made with your be intimate I , or invite someone into the garden and produce some new unity .
If you ’re not already , ensure to take and save pictures of your plantings every class . graze through old photos set aside you to see how much your garden , and your tastes , have changed over the years . These plantings are from about 5 years ago and sport all classic annuals : begonias , geranium , petunia , and dusty miller ( Centaurea cineraria , Zones 8–10 or annual ) .

A few years later , inspired by beautiful black petunia ( Petunia ‘ Black Magic ’ , annual ) , we experimented with a darker color palette and admit victuals for the first time . The scratch was a fun addition , but puzzle a trivial scorched in our full - Dominicus backyard .
More than just our combinations have changed over the years , too . Our backyard has become home to more and more athirst critters and all of the containers now get put on a pedestal to stop all the flowers from being crunch .
One of the perpetrator looking for their next snack . A family ofwoodchucksdoes the most harm around our K . Even a aggregate planting of expensive lavender ( a flora that supposedly deters woodchucks ) had no prospect against these grazers . When you ’re dealing with persistent wildlife in your garden , you eventually learn to survive with them rather than fight them off .

And a confining - up shot of those beautiful Rieger begonias ( Begoniaxhiemalis , annual ) that get planted in the shed window corner every year with trailing vinca vine ( Vincamajor‘Variegata ’ , yearly ) .
Finally , another loved one we enjoy the garden with , enjoying a concrete pot bursting withcalibrachoa . You ca n’t see it from my disingenuous cropping , but the other side of this pot was not so bursting … another snack enjoyed by our Marmota monax neighbors .
